desiccant Activated Alumina CAS 1344-28-1
Product Description
Activated alumina CAS: 1344-28-1
Activated alumina is made from aluminum hydroxide by dehydroxy, which produces highly porous materials. The surface area of this material can significantly exceed 200m²/ g. The compound is used as a Desiccant (to keep it dry by absorbing moisture from the air) and as a filter for fluoride, arsenic and selenium in drinking water.
application
Used as a desiccant, it works through a process called adsorption. In fact, as the air passes through, the water in the air sticks to the alumina itself between the tiny channels. The water molecules are trapped, which dries out the air as it passes through the filter. The process is reversible. If the alumina desiccant is heated to ~ 200°C, it will release trapped water. The process is called regenerative desiccant.
Factors affecting adsorption performance:
(1) particle size: the smaller the particle size is, the higher the adsorption capacity is, but the smaller the particle size is, the lower the particle size strength is, which affects its service life.
(2) the pH value of raw water: when the pH value is greater than 5, the lower the pH value, the higher the adsorption capacity of activated alumina.
(3) Initial fluoride concentration in raw water: the higher the initial fluoride concentration, the greater the adsorption capacity.
(4) basicity of raw water: high concentration of bicarbonate in raw water will reduce its adsorption capacity.
(5) chloride ions and sulfate ions.
(6) The effect of arsenic: activated alumina has adsorption effect on arsenic in water. The accumulation of arsenic on activated alumina will lead to the decrease of fluoride ion adsorption capacity, and it is difficult to elute arsenic ion during regeneration.
