water and insoluble in ethyl ether and other organic solvents, can react with alkali, esterification, acyl halogenation,
amideation reaction. Reduction reactions can also occur, and decarboxylation can occur when heated. Anhydrous oxalic acid is hygroscopic. Oxalic acid forms water-soluble complexes with many metals. Oxalate is highly reductive and is easily oxidized to carbon dioxide and water when interacting with oxidizing agents [1]. The acid potassium permanganate (KMnO4) solution can be discolored and reduced to 2 valence manganese ion. This reaction was used as a method for the determination of potassium permanganate concentration in quantitative analysis. Oxalic acid also washes ink stains from cloth strips.
